Mimi Wade and Warner Bros collaborate for AW20

In collaboration with Margot Robbie’s first solo spin-off as Harley Quinn in the ball-busting blockbuster ‘Birds of Prey’, Mimi Wade stunned with her AW20 ready-to-wear collection.

The Tatler contributing fashion editor and CSM graduate showcased her work last week at the Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, reinterpreting the storyline of the Marvel comic with a mixture of mohair, leather, feathers and diamantes.

Wade made her design debut in February 2016 with Fashion East and a collection of intricately hand painted leather party dresses. Having previously taken inspiration from her grandmother’s Hollywood home for her SS20 collection, the British-American designer knows exactly how to put a vision into reality.

With celebrities such as Dua Lipa, Marina Diamandis and Maya Jama known for wearing Wade’s pieces, the show itself was modelled by many of the designers' friends, while rows of some of the most up-and-coming names in the creative industry watched.

Portraying traditional American ideals of cheerleader costumes, glamourous marabou feathers and diamante chains combined with villainous black leather trench coats and skimpymohair lingerie underneath; the collection was a cute mix of sexy and sensible, sweet and salty, good and evil.

Overall, Wade beautifully demonstrated her love for pop culture mixed with classic female silhouettes in this collaborative collection. The designer maintained wearability while still being sensual, adventurous and appearing impressive on the catwalk. With this already acting as a big step-up creatively, I expect exciting things in future for the young creative following her first standalone runway show this London Fashion Week.
